I've got a customer with 8 PCs all running Win2K pro. After installing SP4 (and all the other updates) there are two machines that will not allow the user to log off, shut down, or restart.

Any thoughts on what I can do would be appreciated.

    Thanks for the info.

Does the same thing happen with other users on the same PC? Both one with user rights and one with admin rights?

If it's only the one user and that person isn't using the built-in admin account, you could try saving their personal info somewhere, deleting the user account, and having them log back on. That will create a new account that will be clean. You can add back things like their favorites, start-up shortcuts, etc.

Many thanks. I think you're spot-on. I'm trying to migrate these folks to using restricted access for the "rank and file" and when I modified their rights things started working.

    Gotta love Windows...
