Not sure if this is a XP situation or a hardware but the problem has only happened after upgrading to XP Home.

Has happened twice since I upgraded this machine to Windows XP Home. The modem stops functioning and when you look at the modem icon in control panel it describes the modem but also says the modem is not present. All is needed is to add the modem back in and the modem is there. Is an external com1 setup.

Have never seen this before and I was wondering if anyone has seen a modem become "not present" for no reason.

This is common in XP. Using an external modem, it must be turned on, before the computer, or it will have to be reinstalled each boot up.
