    i visited a website that plays a Shockwave (?) cartoon where the cartoon character walks in, stands on a soapbox, and kinda just looks out of the screen at you, occasionally blinking ... nothing else ... it was kinda pointless so i left that site and surfed elsewhere;

    however, not long afterward my browsers (both IE6 and MSN8) began behaving erratically - recvd the Page Cannot Be Displayed msg a lot, difficulty surfing to multiple sites simultaneously when previously i could open three windows on three different websites at once and surf each one with little reduction in speed (even with a dial up), but not now;

    anyway, ran McAfee VirusScan 5.1 with DAT files current thru last week and didn't find a virus but the problem continues

    any suggestions?

    the site i visited was as follows: xxxx//:xxx.borgerisd.net/soapbox/soapbox.htm

    of course the xxxx//:xxx equals http//:www but did not want anyone opening the link just in case it is a malicious site ... and if it is NOT a malicious site, if the cartoon is just that, a cartoon, will someone pls explain the point to me
    :confused:

    thanx,
    pwyll

    The site seems harmless enough to me. It tried to set 2 cookies (ad-logics and bidclix).

    The character presented me with a speech about the vain promises contained in spam.

    You didn't hear anything or see his lips moving?

    Hi pwyll

    "It tried to set 2 cookies (ad-logics and bidclix). "

    And does leave two fastclick tracking cookies, SyBot found and deleted, strange it didnt stop them , anyway there basicaly harmless.

    My first thoughts when I saw this thred, If you dont allow a shochwave player , mmm movie to completly load and play,
    just leave of even close the browser, It would couse alot of uncompleted tif files and possibly slow down browsing later.

    so clear the cache and tick the box to delete offline conten as well.
    Let us know ?
    Im hopeing to be corrected if wrong here folks?

    Regards
    Lonny

    thanks for the info ... so i guess now i have to figure out why my browser(s) are so **&#?$! slow now ... have noticed in several recent posts users indicating their own sudden slow-downs of IE6 and the proliferation of that dreaded "PageUnavailable" msg ... all i can say to that is "me too" and hope and pray someone knows why it's happening and can tell us (me) how to fix it ... EASILY :)

    but at least i now know that website didn't cripple me ... thanx again

    What OS 98,XP?

    Cleanup deeply!

    The below should be done on all OS's but if you have 95,98 or ME there are a couple of additional cleanups. So let me know!
    =============================================
    Configure CleanMgr to max settings
    Go to Start-Run and type

    cleanmgr /sageset:1
    The above need only be ran once (these settings will be remembered as the default until another sageset is ran).

    It will present a menu select all except compress, then

    Go to Start-Run and type

    cleanmgr /sagerun:1
    As long as /sageset above has been ran on this computer from now on the /sagerun is the only thing that needs to run
    =============================================

    Spyware and adware removal

    SpyBot http://security.kolla.de/index.php?lang=en&page=download
    Run this twice delete all it finds, "ALWAYS" run this before AdAware.
    Leave all it wants to leave after the second run.
    =============================================

    Registry and System cleaners

    RegCleaner <http://www.vtoy.fi/jv16/shtml/regcleaner.shtml>
    Look in first 2 cols for programs you thought you uninstalled or removed, these are the dregs left by the uninstaller. Also tag and remove any that you are POSITIVE are not supposed to be on your computer. After removing these go to the top Tools-Registry Cleanup-Do them all. Delete all it finds.

    EasyClean1.7 <http://gswi.com/downloads.htm>
    Run only unnecessary files and registry clean delete all it finds. If you have ME or XP in the "Unnessesary Files" type the word HELP in the skip box. Do not do Duplicate files!

    System Mechanic <http://www.iolo.com/sm/index.htm> Do not do Duplicate files!

    RegScrubXP http://home.carolina.rr.com/lexunfreeware/RegScrubXP/RegScrubXP.htm
    NOTE: W2K and XP only
    Select RegScrub finds problems and remove all it finds.
