    Hello,

Is there any way to recover a file ( type .shn ) that may have been to large for the recycle bin? I say may have been, because I don't remember getting that message, but might have.

Thanks again for all your help past present and future.

    Wes

    Hello,

In the past I remember getting a message with very large .wav files ...too large for re-cycle bin. Would you like to permenately delete it... or something similar.

.shn is a lossless file compression file. I was able to compress the .wav file that wasn't working back to .shn, then uncompress it back to .wav and it worked, though it took a few tries. Thanks.

    Hello HotTuna,

If System Restore is enabled and have a restore point prior to the deletion, then restore to that point, copy the file out to the My Documents folder and then undo the restore. You can then copy the file back to the original folder from My Documents.

    What????

I didn't think System Restore restored data files. I guess since when you run System Restore, you don't loose data files, I assumed it wouldn't replace them either.

    Hello HotTuna,

SR "backs up ": executable files, scripts, dynamic link libraries (DLLs), TrueType fonts, and Adobe Acrobat Portable Document Format (PDF) files that were stored outside of your My Documents folder and that had been downloaded after the date of the restore point you selected.

System Restore does not monitor the following files and folders:

The page file (virtual memory) or hibernation file.

Any files of any type stored in the following personal data folders:

My Documents, Favorites, Cookies, Recycle Bin, Temporary Internet Files, History, and Temp.

Image and graphics files, including bitmap and JPEG files, and files that use extensions commonly associated with data files, such as .doc, .xls, .mdb, and .pdf.

E-mail files managed by Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express.

    So, worth a try.

    Regards - Charles

HotTuna--If you have truly deleted the file, you may be able to get it back using an "undelete" program. A free one is
    http://216.239.39.104/translate_c?hl=en&u=http://hccweb1.bai.ne.jp/~hcj58401/
However, do not download to your hard drive but rather to a floppy. Any writing to your har drive (even just using your PC) can overwrite whatever parts of the deleted file are still there.
