I have two systems that I just upgraded from Windows 2000 to XP Corperate. In 2000 when I wanted to access a share on the other system, I would type \\ethan\d$ into the explorer address bar and it would prompt me for a username and passowrd. 2000 would then compare that username and password with the list on the remote system. Now with XP when i try the same proceedure, XP will come up with this "Default User Name" That it got from it's local username and password list. I will not even allow me to change this user name. Then there has to be an identical set of credentials on the remote system to gain access. How do I make this process in XP like it was in 2000?

    Thanks

Xp-pro should behave just like 2K did in this instance.

Make sure you have "Simple File Sharing" unchecked.
