HI LONNY AND 62! First thing - renaming the host file didn't help. Second - I just installed TWEAK DUN and it put in a host file to use itself! I thought maybe this might clear up any error - but no such luck. I have been wondering - this problem used to happen on the IE too - but lately I can get online using IE at least - but it is always happening when I try to go online out of a link on an e-mail. Does this mean anything? I never could connect off a link in an e-mail when already online - had to be off at the time too. If you don't know - Juno e-mail is a sperate thing - offline. Lucked out with the Diskeeper - I reinstalled a couple of time and now it is back! Yea! But this other thing? Is there anyway I can stop it from trying to find this 127.0.0.1 at all? Thanks for the advice - I tried that Spybot before and it was a little agressive if I remember - and it gave me troubles - but I will try again. m

config button hit misc tools and generate a startup list

what ya doing with anything ProxyServer wize ?

You never realy ansewed ,did you with juno's browser uncheck
it as being the default browser and the On IE's toolbar internet options> programs tab hit the reset web settings and put a tick next to IE should check to see etc etc
and apply then OK --- go back to options security tab make sure the green an blue gloab is seleted hit the use default er default level the the advanced tab take note of these the use that default( restore defaults) again apply and OK

or did you answer and I missed it ?

Get rid of FRAMXPRO, and let windows handle the memory. It can do a real good job by itself, no matter what they say at their website.
BIGFIX.EXE is a resource hog, stop it from starting up. It phones home, but doesn't seem to be ad/spyware.
tweakdun.exe does not need to run at every startup, once tweaked it is done.
You have the Hosts file again.
You have a unnamed BHO [Browser Helper Object], though no file is listed for it.
    I wouldn't use the DISKEEPERLITE.

If you want a free program to play with, it should be this oneSpyBot Search & Destroy.

    PROXY SERVER?

WHAT STUFF?! I don't know what you are talking about - on my settings I don't have any proxy sever checked. Is it a problem? Thanks again for the help. My Juno is 4 - which has no browser of its own. But IE is checked as the default browser everywhere I see. m

    62! diskeeper?

What do you use to defrag your system? The one that came with Win98 is very very slow - the diskeeper does it in about 1/50th of the time. That Frampro seemed to help speed me up - don't you beleive in anything? Remember I am just a lowly dialer 56k guy getting about 40k in speed back. thanks for the feed back. m

    Hello
    " "I AM SO OVER MY HEAD - HERE GOES! " "

when you wrote this I was thinking wo wait a minute , we are gettin alittle ahead of ourselves here and just a little futher back you were installing yet another utility.

And these highjackthis logs are alittle over my head, Others here will have to help to..Im still learning..

and you didnt say if you used spybot and adaware? 1
You havent said if youve used the default button in security and advanced (intenet option) ? 2

"you have been trying just about everything on the internet. "

Bad Idea--Tis why most of us end up here asking for help :)

    Mark suggests
You could consider Cacheman Outer Technologies: Cachman though like he said windows hadles memory alright al by itself,,, less you have more that 512.
set it and forget no need to run start with windows
no need for Big fix ,, check for you're self, say once weekly
Im sure some may disagree Its just my opinion...
I dont let anything auto update..
No real need for any third party programs that defrag or scandisk just start the pc in safe mode first..
I try to limit things that start with windows,, more resouces avaialble the more programs I can use and quit from and the less often I have to restart to recover
there will always be resouse leaks,,

    ==================================
OK lets go over the first log (alittle)
POP-UP STOPPER FREE EDITION,, Is this what uses proxy or maybe you have that checked in ie options advanced
I see no need to have yet another program start with windows.
the google toolbar has a simple popup blocker not sure yet if it works well enough to mention
    Google Toolbar: http://toolbar.google.com/index-beta.php
I use AdShield Banner Ad Blocker: http://www.adshield.org/
It doesnt say there last time I checked BUT you dont have to pay
and it works just greate uses no resources, limited exclude list till registerd..
    AdShield Banner Ad Blocker: http://www.adshield.org/

Remove the O2 - BHO: (no name) - with Highjackthis as Mark suggests
TweakDUN i see no reason for it nor its metor consuming more yet resources, and keep in mind SpyBot uses host to exclude sites everything within## is ecluded ..and can lock it if checked -on the imunize page...
[EnsoniqMixer] starter.exe check packs portal see if it need to be used or started.
    DiskeeperLite already said..
    FREERAM XP PRO " "
Shell & screensaver key from C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM.INI:
I dont use screen savers especaily third party one's.
Yet another opinion Dont use it, and if you use diskcleanup even manualy dont let it clean downloaded internet files,
leave them and empty windows temp after a fresh startup,
control panel ie options to clear cache and offline content...

PCPitstop Utility dont believe everthing said there..
prove it go back with exactly the same things running ..and from a fresh startup..

    WebCheck: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\WEBCHECK.DLL
thats either crittical update (uninstall it) or in ie options advanced
[ ] automaticaly check for etd etc--uncheck it..

Bye for now No spell check sorry

    Lonny

Frampro sits there and frees up memory, while it is using up memory. The best way to put it, unused ram is wasted ram. If you want a tweak that will make more of difference on your system more than anything else is this one.
    In the System.Ini file, add this line under the [386Enh] section;
    ConservativeSwapfileUsage=1
    Let Windows handle it.
I am on a dial up, myself. My modem regularly connects at 54666, and I don't have a DUN tweaker running. I did use a networking tweaker once, but like I said, once set, they are set.
I do have a Hosts file, but only to prevent ads from loading, preventing unwanted bandwidth usage. It also stops most popups, almost eliminating the need for a pop up stopper.
Your Diskeeper seems to do it in 1/50th of the time when you do a manual defrag. But the actual time spent on defragging, it is much more as it is doing it in the background, or when your computer is on it is defragging. It seems to be unnecessary wear on your hard drive.
My hard drive has 4 partitions, and use the 98 defrag. 10 minutes for the System partition, 15 for Program partition, 2 for Backup partition, my Temp partition I do not bother to defrag.

    SUGGESTIONS?

Thanks for all the feed back 62 and Lonny! I really do appreciate it - by the way - that swapfile setting is like that already 62. Lonny - that Ad stopper thing - 29.95 - sorry. I really only can use freeware stuff. But I will try to eliminate some of those starting up - it is just easier for me so I know that they are working without me doing anything. We will see. Oh - and right now - everything is working normal - even connected to here by a e-mail link! I don't know what did it - I did find an extra Juno conn that had be placed in my list - and it had the backup using a proxy setting which I got rid of - but who knows - it maybe back to the same thing tommorow! Computers are insane! I do love to try new things to see if I can get this thing to get going faster than 40k - some pages take forever to load. I always thought that if I could get it to just click off a steady one item per sec. that would be fine. Anyway - thanks for the input - I will try them out. m:cool:

I tried to explain , it appear to be you have to perches it but in fact you do not , the what to [include] is limited until you pay (register) But it works greate anyway , Ive suggested it here elseware , topic I believe was popup blockers or recomend
I think I also posted a link to the free version 1.2 that works even better that the so called limited one, But thats a secret :)

All I know about any proxy settings Is MY ISP routes through a proxie I dont need any settings checked within iE and If I did it would slow this PC to a crawl, IE options advanced uncheck and try if checked,, maye some program you had used that setting..
