Trying to get windows to remember the (open) windows sizes and location. I used the Tools>Folder Options>View>Apply to all windows so many times but it seems like when i re-boot, the sizes/locations are Not remembered. Is this a temporary setting that applies to each session only? How to make it a permenant setting that windows will remember?

when i insert a CD, a small window always appears , this window list some actions that are available (need to pick one!). Since i always pick "Take no action ", i was wondering if there is a way to make this action permenant (sometimes a checkbox will appear for this but it does no good to check it because the window will appear again (next bootup, that is).

    thanks,

    Hi Clif!

I can´t help with the window issue.

In Windows Explorer, right-click Your CD and choose properties / autoplay. There You can specify Your preferred action. If You have two units e.g. CD-burner + DVD-player, You have to do it for both.

    Regards,
    Christer

For Internet explorer, this isn't that hard. For other programs, it may be more difficult.

For IE, From your main window, click a link to open a new window. Resize it to fill the screen, but DON'T maximize it. Close the first window. NOW close the resized window.

IE will remember that window size, and will start at that size, and other windows should as well. For awhile.

    -------------------------------------

    Round 2:

Open a new window in Internet explorer. Size the window to the size you want to see when a new window is opened. Hold down the shift key and selecte FILE - CLOSE. Subsequent windows will open to the size you set.

    ---------------

    Round 3:

If IE is recalcitrant regarding size you can close all IE windows and use the registry editor to get to:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Internet Explorer \ Main

    Delete the value, Window_Placement.

IE will recreate the value if needed, and meanwhile, you should be able to go back to the advice above, in Round 2, and get what you want.

    ----------------------

Or, for a web browser window, make a local html document be your home document, and in that document write code that will set the upper-left corner of the window and resize the window. If you start with that document every time...

:D s'ok. I've got that hanging around as boilerplate.

If I had read a little closer, I'd have understood your question was more focused.
