Is there a setting in Outlook Express that shows an icon in your toolbar when you get an email, or a sound or something? I have version 6.0 with Windows XP. Thanks for any response.

You have to have OE running.
Then it will check your email as often as you indicate in the options.

You can apply any sound you have on your computer in the control panel>sounds and audio devices>sounds tab>program events. Scroll down to "New Mail Notification ". You can browse your folders and select a sound to use.

There's a free utility, HideOE which will minimize Outlook Express to the system tray which gets it out of your way and allows it to continue to check your email (as well as play a notification sound when there's new mail if you have that option set in OE) at whatever intervals you have set in OE's options.

You can bring OE back up to full screen by clicking the icon.

I use it and it works exactly as advertised.
