    Running I.E 5.01 sp2 on win 98 machine.
Finding that when reading lot's of newsgroup messages ( while in O.E) that before you even see the message your browser has been hooked off to a website.
How can you defeat this what I feel is "Malicious coding ".

Also when browsing the web using I.E, what security needs to be in place to stop certain websites hooking into your machine/writing themselves to favourites/
placing items in start menu/desktop icons etc.
And even in one case forcing an automatic download to my machine placing a sp.dll file in the registry etc, etc.

I have Zone alarm firewall/innoculate ipe, and have disabled WSH from my computer. Also running all the latest Vm patches from Microsoft

    all the best

For your first question, in Outlook Express, go to Tools > Options > Security. Select the Restricted sites zone. In IE 6, that's just a radio button selection. I don't recall if it was the same in your version.
