A friend of mine is running Windows ME (Poor kid) along with IE 5.5.

He recently downloaded a Windows Update that has stopped him opening ANY link whatsoever that opens in another window.

If he clicks a link that opens in another window another web browser opens, but the page doesnt even begin to load up. The address doesnt show up in the address bar either. Basically, an empty web browser opens.

Ive tried System Restore for him, but after restoring to before the time it says no changes have been made. Repairing IE also brings no joy either.

Any ideas how to fix this?

    Thanx alot.

    Hi Geordie

So what version of IE now--after winup.

I have win me , when I ugraded to IE6 it would get stuck (is the only way I can explain it) between enable and disable opening in another window, tools, internet options , advanced -[X] reuse windows for launching shortcuts, I had to change this and back again while offline with no IE's open,
also Im not sure but try with folder options ,(yes explorer) view tab check(tick) the[x] launch folder windows in a separate process,,, he may have to toogle these for them to stick, and restart ,,

And take a look here, some may-not seam to apply please read anyway:http://www.generation.net/~hleboeuf/ienewind.htm

    Let us know

For those interested, Ive finally got round to sorting it out for him. Thanx for the links.

Pretty simple really, only had to go to start -> run and type somethng like urlmon.dll or sumthing similar until a message appeared saying suceeded.

Windows BBS comes thru strong as usual. ;)

    Thanx again.

    For the record,

    RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem in Internet Explorer, follow these steps:

    1. Quit all programs that are running.
    2. Click Start, and then click Run.
    3. Type regsvr32 urlmon.dll, and then click OK.
    4. When you receive the "DllRegisterServer in urlmon.dll succeeded" message, click OK.
