I can insert the graphic in my document, and I can print it on my printer, but when I save it to a CD, it won't print.

HELP in Word doesn't address this. Does anyone out there have any idea what I could be doing wrong?

    Hi Alice,

Not sure how much help this will be as I am running Word 2000, but have you checked :

Tools > Options > Print > 'Include with document - drawing objects'.

If you save the file to HD and re-open does the graphic print - I guess it does.

If you copy the file from the CD back to HD does the graphic print?

What is the graphic - *.bmp, *.jpg .... ?

All in all a bit strange.

I think PeteC is on the right track. You have to make sure you are embedding the picture, not linking it.

Thank you, PeteC and Hex92, for trying to help. It's a jpg file, and yes, I've tried all those things in Tools - Options -- Print that is suggested in the Microsoft help. Last night I paid $29 per incident to Dell, and he couldn't solve the problem, either. This morning, about 5:00, I decided to uninstall Word and reinstall it. Wish me luck.

    Alice,

Please let us know if the re-install solved the problem - otherwise it's thinking caps on :D

No, it didn't work --- arrrrggggghhghhhh!
Well, let me explain a little more clearly. I had to get this project to the printer (professional printer, not my machine), so I've deleted the graphic that couldn't print from the CD copy. Forget it. I don't need that.

However, I do still have a problem. Before and after the reinstall, I cannot insert a graphic in a table cell on the first try. When I click Insert - Picture - from file - the second time, the graphic pops up, but I can't select it, so I can't resize it.

I've been working with this file for two weeks now. It has several graphics imbedded (not linked), and I had no problem until yesterday.

BUT: The file did get corrupted at one point. Word showed me where the corruptions were; I went in and manually corrected them; and I never got the corruption message again. I don't know whether this has anything to do with anything or not. I rather doubt it, because I have the same problem with inserting graphics in ANY table, even brand new ones.

I CAN insert a graphic on a blank page (no tables), save it to a CD, and print it with no problem.

MS wants to charge me $249 per incident, so I'm more than reluctant to contact them, other than their knowledg e base, etc. You guys are a bit cheaper, right?:)

    Right :D

Let me have a play with this - hopefully Word 2000 is much the same in this respect.

    Back soon.

    Alice,

Cold comfort I'm sure, but I had no problem in Word 2000. Inserted 3 x jpgs into a table, resized them, burnt the Word doc to CD. Opened the CD and printed the table OK.

    Some thoughts -

Which OS are you running ?

Where does Word 2002 originate from ? Standalone App, Office or Works.

If one of the latter two I wonder if you need to re-install the whole suite as there will be common files and the problem may lie there.

    Hi, Pete.
OS is XP, and Word 2002 originated from Works. After I finish what I'm doing here (long story), I reinstall the entire package. Thanx for the idea.

I have Microsoft Office 2000. Before installing 2000 I had 97 and could install all the graphics I wanted to in Word. I use to use it as a thumbnail sheet for viewing all my digital camera photos. It was just easy to use. After installing 2000 that went away. Can't hardly do anything with graphic in word 2000. Found out later that Microsoft made changes in 2000 and that is why it went away. Was told that I could write a mico in word to correct the problem but it would be a permanent change and some other problem might pop up. I gave up. I did find out that I can do the same thing in Excel that I use to do in 97. Go figure!! The information about the micro was found in Microsoft's help forum but can't remember where. I stumbled across it when i saw that a lot of other people were having the same problem.

It didn't work, Pete. I'm so disappointed. I thought perhaps your idea (don't know why I didn't think of it), of reinstalling the entire Works program would correct my graphics problem, but it didn't. Thanks for trying. Any other ideas?

Fred, I, too, used graphics in 97 and 2000 with no problems. However, I also used graphics extensively in 2002 until 3 days ago when, all of a sudden, I couldn't. But I should clarify: I have no problem inserting graphics in plain documents; it's just inserting them into tables that I cannot do, anymore. Thank you for your input.

I wanted to tell everyone who is trying to help me that I'll be gone for a couple days. If you don't hear back from me before Saturday, you'll know why. Thanx.

Well, I found my problem. Somehow, I had changed the default for inserting pictures to "In back of text." Even though I had no text, I could not select my graphic. I have no idea how I did that. But I went into the defaults, changed it to "In front of text," and voila! Problem solved. I can now insert graphics, select them, resize, etc., just as I had done before.

Thank you, Pete and Fred, for hanging in there with me.

P.S. I should have told you: Under HELP in Word, I found Detect and Repair. Once there, I clicked on "Discard customized settings and restore default settings." That did it.
