    Hi everyone,

I want to know if there is any way to move the desktop "My

Documents" folder from my C drive (only 500mb left) to the D drive

(19gb) without using additional sofware. I keep downloaded

music, video, etc., in the folder and I want to store them on my D

drive so I can free up space on my C drive (originally 4gb) and

run my other programs more efficiently. Click and drag doesn't

work for My Documents, and if I try "send to ", it just makes

copies and the original stays on the C. Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance

Create a folder on your d: drive with whatever name you want. Then, right click on the My Documents icon on the desktop and click on the move button. You'll be prompted as to whether or not you want to copy the files in the old My Documents to the new folder. These instructions are for XP but if you're using one of the win9x's, you can do the same thing. Don't remember if it's exactly the same as XP but if you right click on MY Docs and choose properties there is an option to move them somewhere in there.

Thanks Zander, but your suggestion only copies the My Documents folder from C to D. I would like to move it completely. I have ~2gbs of info in the My Docs that I want to free up from my C drive(4gbs total) and put it on my D(19gbs total). When I try your solution, if I delete the folder on C, the folder on D can't find the files. Anyone else have a suggestion?

    Aloha and Mahalo,

Another way is to use Windows Explorer. Open Explorer and right click on your My Documents folder and drag it to your D: drive folder. Release the button and then select Move Here..That should move it from C: to D: .. Don't forget to notify all relevant programs where My Documents is now..
PS When repying to this post, use the reply button, don't start anothet thread. Makes it easier to follow what going on.:)

What you have done is create shortcuts to those files.
Open Windows Explorer and the My Documents. In My Documents, go to the Toolbar at Edit\Select All. The go back and Edit\Cut. Then go to Windows Explorer, browse to D:, right click on the folder you want the file in and select Paste.

My Documents folder is really a Windows program. Keep it on the C drive. Copy the contents to a new folder on the D drive and when completed, delete the contes inside the C drice My Documents folder, which will free up the space on C drive.

Empty the recycl bin after to free up the space entirely. But before emptying tyhe bin, verify that the files are intact on D drive.

Thanks to everyone for the help. I've freed up almost 2gb on my C drive. All the ideas were terrific.
