I've just uninstalled IE6 (SP1 this time) for the third time, reverting to 5.5 once again. On this Win98SE machine, and some others that have reported in to newsgroups, Windows Explorer slows and eventually stops responding when deleting large numbers of files simultaneously. I have linked this problem to IE6, as it does not occur with 5.5.

This began about a year ago when I downloaded IE6 for the first time, and tried again a few months later thinking the problem might have been fixed, then last week with IE6SP1. Unfortunately, the problem persists. I emailed M$ about six months ago about this problem and again today, but I must assume they aren't interested, as the problem persists.

I'd like to know if anyone on this forum has experienced this, and would like to hear comments from anyone on why this is happening. I deal with large image files (photos) and find this "feature" to be unacceptable, though I would like to have IE6 installed for its privacy and security features.

That's it!! I'm on Win98se and updated to IE6 sp1 a few days ago and since then windows explorer has been 'not responding' when moving, deleting or even creating new files. I just removed IE6 and returned to the previous version and the problem is solved.
