I just upgraded to W2K from 98se. At first, shutdown took the normal amount of time, a minute or so. Then I did Service Pack 3, things still fine. Then I did Internet Explorer 6.0 Service Pack 1. Then some other Windows 2000 Updates, and somewhere in there shutdown started being extremely slow. Pretty inconvenient when trying to uninstall and reinstall things that didn't "take" during the W2K upgrade process. If I can figure out which was the last update I did before the problem started, can I uninstall it? If so, how? Or might it be some other problem? I'm brand new to Windows 2000, so any instruction would be appreciated.

Yes, I think the info you provided is going to help. Looks like it's my Easy CD Creator, for which I just downloaded 1 patch and 3 updates from one of the links included in your info. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks very much.

Well, Daizy, it was the Adaptec software. After installing the updates, my computer took 1 min 15 sec to shut down, an improvement of 5 min 45 sec! Thank you for directing me to the solution.
