    Hey all,
hi just anouther quick question. Has anyone herd of this problem before.

when i turn on this computer, The keyboard lights (Caps Lock, num lock and scroll lock) all light up for the 2 seconds then go off, but straight after that the keyboard dosent work. No key work i cant even enter the BIOS.
Ive tryed a couple of keyboards (PS/2) and they all have the same result. They light up during POST but after that they die.

The computer still boots to Win98se and dosent even beep to tell me that something is wrong.

My question is, is this Winodws based problem or (like i tend to think) BIOS or Motherboard problems??

    regards
    Redghan

Use a DOS boot disk and see if the keyboard works in DOS mode.

Mouse work? Keyboard and mouse cables switched on back of computer? As you look at the connections, the KB goes on the left.

    Thanks guys,
But all the cables are plugged in correct.
And i cant boot to DOS (of a disk) cause its only set to boot c: only. The keyboard deffently dies at the POST. But like i said the lights on the keyboard flash on for the few seconds there spose to and then thats it..

I may not be much help, because I am having what seems to be the same problem on one of my computers.
The case has a lock which locks out the keyboard. If your case does not have a lock, then check whether your motherboard has "keyboard lock" pins for a lead to be attached, they shoud be with the rest of the case leads/pins.
I've tried shorting these pins with a jumper, but no luck so far. My next trial will be to change the battery.
The problem may be a short in my motherboard wiring. (I'm going to check for any wandering screws, etc.)

Clear your CMOS and then you can get into Bios where you can enable setup defaults or reconfigure to boot from a floppy along with that C drive.

    ;)

Shorting the keylock pins locks the keyboard.

Did you ever resolve your problem? I was looking through this post cause I just had the same problem with a friend's computer I took home to work on. I tried several keyboards and they all just lit up for a few seconds then died. I did have the KB connected to the port on the left, but mouse wouldn't fit in the port to the right, so plugged it into a USB port using an adapter. Turns out that the keyboard was actually plugged into the mouse port and that's why it would die. The mouse actually plugged into the port on the left, and I still don't know what the port on the right was for. The keyboard actually plugged into a 5 Pin port recessed deeply into the top of the case -- had to buy a PS/2 to 5 Pin AT Adapter. Now keyboard stays lit up and works.
