I am going to Broadband and need to purchase a modem.
Would greatly appreciate advice re external USB Modem vs internal , I have heard of bandwidth "problems" with external adsl USB modem but do not know what that means.

You will get a modem from the isp when you sign up for DSL. You can buy cable modems if you get cable broadband. My DSL came with a ZyXEL USB modem and it works fine.

    grrrrr

depending on the OS you are using i would not recommend a USB over ethernet...i work for ISP and USB on Win95, 98 and ME can be a royal pain...if at all possible use the ethernet...a NIC card is cheap and it will install and work better under these OS's...take it from me i see problems with USB on these OS's everyday...

Also if u will later choose to share your internet conection thru ICS i also advise a modem wich connects to a ethernet card cause the computers wich r not directly connected to the card will have some problems accecing some sites.

u can also share your internet connection thru a rooter, and there r adsl rooters but i don't really know if they r very diferent from ethernet rooter or if the price is much diferent.
