I am running a windows 2000 server and windows 2000 pro client PC's.

When I set up print drivers on the server (importantly these have special features like watermarks or duplex printing) it appears to work fine.

However, when I then go to the client PC and install these drivers I lose all of these non basic settings. This means I have to tweak every client PC after installing each driver (and I have lots of them) to get it back to they way it should have installed in the first place.

Is there a way to stop the client drivers reverting to "default" settings?

Can't ya just set the server to share the printer? I didnt have to load any drivers into my client to share the sever printer:)

No the printer is already shared to 8 PC's, that is not the problem.

The problem is that I am creating specific drivers for use in a VB Macro and each driver does something different.

EG one driver prints double sided and stapled, another driver prints single sided but with a "DRAFT" watermark.

As I said, these non default settings get lost when the install is done onto the client PC

This is a tough one alrite. the defaulting will go back to original. Gosh I don't think I've tryed this with printers before. Could it be then that you would have to load onto the sever on behalf of each CLIENT a set of specific drivers to share with individual clients? Example: default printer HP990cx (default) HP990cx(1) HP990cx(2) etc. Then when the client wishes to print from the SHARE, they would select their printer only!!

I spent some time setting up 3 "sets" of specific printer drivers for client computers. It worked! When client "A" wanted to print a special way it selected HP890cx(2), when client "B" wanted to print its special way it selected HP890cx(3) & so on. Just share all printers from the server so all clients can "SEE" them:)

    No real benefit

It may be possible to do as you say but then it is still only a workaround of my current problem.

I don't want to have to create a set of drivers for each client. I have a total of 60 client PC's and if I need to create 8 drivers for each one then it is a huge job.

I might as well just create the 8 drivers and then install them on each client PC and titivate them to what they should have installed as in the first place.

I don't want to do this though. There must be some W2k setting that can be tweaked to make my virtual drivers install with the full settings and onot just the default settings!

    It is frustrating all right!
