After initial boot when Windows 98 splash is finished I get a blue screen about 50% of the time. Sometimes CAD will
restart- if not I must restart on the tower. Any help??

Has that been going on for less than 5 days?

Now your mouse will not work here, you must use your arrow keys.
If so, see if you can boot to the boot menu and select 5. Command

    [type in ] scanreg /restore
    Hit enter
select a started date prior to the start of the problem.
Follow the prompts and let us know if that fixes things.

    mid boot problem

Thanks for the reply: Never thought about using the arrows!!! The boot menu-is that in the windows menu,
or in safe mode menu? I had this problem for 2 weeks or more., maybe 5 or 6. Advise how to get to the boot menu?
Will do it tomorrow and let you know how I made out.
    Thanks again, Joe

It has been to long. regedit just works with the last 5 days/times your started the computer as it does it the first thing when the computer is started for that particular day.

Reboot and on startup hold the Control key [Tap F8 if control does not work]
This will bring up the Boot menu
Arrow down [mouse does not work here] to 5. Safe Command, hit enter
