I just made a disturbing discovery.

Using 7.01, not realizing that I had already closed my connection, I responded to an E-Mail that I had received. A few minutes later when I realized that I hadn't been connected I wondered what happened to that message. It was not in my Outbox or the Draft folder. It was in the Sent folder, but of course had NOT been sent.

In 4.78 if I had attempted to do that I would have gotten several alerts that the server couldn’t be located and the message had not been sent. I would then mark it to be sent later when I was connected.

Isn’t this a major problem for us folks that don’t pay attention to the world around us. <G>

    Hi vegaspat,

Check your "Offline & Disk Space" settings.

I have tried to recreate what you experienced and have been unable to do so. This is the error I receive when replying to an open email when offline: Screen Shot.

I assume you checked with the recipient, and they confirmed that the email was not received?

    Ramona,

Under Offline and Disk Space, I have "Ask me if I want to send unsent messages ". That apparently does me no good because it doesn't work.

When I realized what was happening, I composed a message to myself while offline. I received no error messages and the message was not in the Outbox or Draft folder to be sent later. I do know that if I am off line and want to compose notes to send when I log on at a later date and can tick the File/Send unsent messages the message will be sent if I remember to go to that option when I log on.

This whole thing was totally automated in my previous version of Netscape. In that version if I forgot to send one "later" I would get a pop up that asked me I wanted to send unsent messages either when I logged on or logged off. This version gives me NO notice that messages are not and will not be sent later.

Norton checks my outgoing mail and that is really what made me realize what happened the other day. The message appeared to GO, but Norton didn't pop up. That's when I realize that this nitwit wasn't even logged on.

And your screen shot is closer to what I got in previous versions of Netscape but NOT in 7.01.

I want to get the old reminders that I have unsent messages and not it appearing that they were sent when I am not even connected to the Internet. The really strange thing is that they do appear in the Sent folder when indeed they were NEVER sent.

    HELP!!

    vegaspat,

If you have created a user.js file, then add the below script, which will create an "Unsent" folder to your Default Mail Account. I'm not certain this will work with multiple accounts, as I've not tried the workaround with other than my default account:

    user_pref( "mail.default_sendlater_uri ", "mailbox://
    <username>@<servername>/Unsent%20Messages ");

NOTE: this should be one line. I had to break the line to keep it from making the thread too wide.

Note: you will need to add your own information here:
<username>@<servername> The rest of the script will remain the same.

If you haven't created a user.js file, then I recommend doing so.

    Open Notepad
Copy the above script, containing your mail account information
    Click on File | Save
    Name the file user.js
Save the file to your salted folder:
    C:\Windows\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\profilename\xxxxxxxx.slt
    (Depending on your OS)

Without an Unsent Folder, Netscape will probably save those emails to your Local Folders|Unsent Messages.

    Ramona,

I already have an "Unsent messages" folder. I've always had one.

Those messages just seem to go into the unknown.

I take it, you've not heard of anyone else having this problem? I simply don't know how I come up with these wierd things.

    Ramona,

I printed off and was checking out your last message.

I don't seem to have the following folder: C:\Windows\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\profilename\xxxxxxxx.slt

    What am I missing here?

    Pat
