I'm running Windows ME and IE 6.0.2600.000, on occasions when a page begins to load on IE the screen locks up and there is no response form the keyboard or mouse. The IE page that is loading continues until the status line indicates it is done. This has only happened since I upgraded to IE 6

Once the page has loaded everything is frozen. I can press Ctrl+Alt+Del and get the close program box, the IE program is highlighted, however it doe not say itt is not responding, without the keyboard or mouse I can't end the program or anything else.

If I hit the Ctrl+Alt+Del combination again I get a blue screen that says the following:
"An exception OE has occurred at 0028:C00096BA in VxD VMM(01) + 000086BA this was called from 0028:C0090D28 in VxD VKD(01) +00000640 "

If I hit enter I get black screen, If I hit the Ctrl+Alt+Del combo a number of time the computer either restarts of I get the message ":Windows protection error You need to restart your computer ". Occasionally prior to this message I get a blue screen that says "An error has occurred to continue press enter to return to windows or Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart. Error OD: A7C0: 00 00000E. Ctrl+Alt+Del themn produces the "Window protection error" message.

I've cleaned up the Temp Internet file, ran scandisk and defragged the drive. I have also tried the repair function on IE and I'm still getting the lockup

    Any suggestions would be appreciated

Thanks for the info ALEEKAT, I looked at the link, however the computer experiencing this problem is a Gateway and has the Gateway NVIDIA RIVA TNT (ver. 4) adapter. So it does not appear that the info will help in this case.

    Anymore suggestions?

Read this . It's in response to a post about an error message that's pretty close to yours. Here is a link to the original post.

Thanks Zander. However, this Gateway system is about 2 years old and has never had this problem untill IE6 was installed, so I doubt there is a compatabilty problem between the motherboard and the driver.

Did you read further down my link, fixes that don't involve the ATI card?

I'm sorry ALEEKAT, but I don't see anything on the link that refers to any driver other than ATI. This lock up does not appear to happen when I'm scrolling a page, only on occasions when a page is loading. In any case am I missing something on the link?
