I have a question for anyone here in the know. When I first start out online using my cable modem, things run fast as expected. After say maybe an hour or hour and a half, things seem to slow down while browsing. Pages take a bit longer to load and i've notived a lot of hangups on my ethernet card address 127.0.0.1. It seems to hang at that IP address when it gets slow.

Could something here be loading up and causing the slowness with the cable connection? My cache is emptied daily but it seems that once you start moving about the net, that's when the slowness slowly progresses in.

Any help or tips are appreciated! :)

What operating system are you using and how old is the pc?

If you reboot, do things go as fast as before?

Steve, i'm using XP Home on a 2.4ghz. 512mb RAM Gateway.

Yes, if I reboot, the symptoms do subside for a while then eventually come back.

    What are you thinking???

Would guess that you have a program running that is leaking memory.

I am with Steve! Are you cleaning both windows and internet temps?

Is you pagefile set up correctly?

Have you ran SpyBot to get rid of Spy/Adaware.

Do you have control of your startups?

So when you first boot up immediately do a ctrl alt del and look at the Task Manager Processes and performance to get an idea of what may be normal. Then when it slows drasticly do it again and see what is happening now and what process is churning away.

At the same time keep an eye on memory use on the same screen.

If it is disk i/o that is causing this problem you should hear the HD churn intensively when it is slow.
