I cannot update certain programs

    Hello.
    When I download certain upgrades I cant install them, here is one example for an update on IE:

    Error creating process
    <c:\docume~1\0924~1\locals~1\temp\IXP001.TMP\ieupdate.exe Q818529>
    Reason: The system cannoy find the path specified.

    The last frase "ieupdate.exe Q818529" is the variable that changes when I try to upgrade different updates.

    I am not able to upgrade from windows update site either.

    Have any of you any idea how to fix this ?

    I'm really guessing here. Could be that the contents of the temp directory has been deleted by a subsequent boot?

    At the risk of repeating what you may already know/have done :D

    When you download an upgrade to HD from Windows Update specify a location - create a folder for Updates.

    After downloading you should see in that folder a new folder Software with several layers of subfolders, plus a couple of other files - a *.xml file and a *.reg file. leave these alone

    Open up the Software folder and drop down through the sub folders until you hit the *.exe file, e.g. Q810565_WXP_SP2_x86_ENU.exe
    Double click this and it should install.

    Is this what you have been doing without success?

    For problems with Windows Update search the XP Forum and read the threads - the answer to your problem is likely to be there.

    Thanks for the answer.

    The contents of the temp directory has been deleted, yes, but I have tried again several times over the last weeks so it shouldnt really matter, I think.

    The updates from microsoft is going into the folder D:\WUtemp

    D:\WUtemp\com_microsoft.Q330994_OEPatch_IE6SP1_32\q330994.exe
    and
    D:\WUtemp\com_microsoft.Q818529_IE6_SP1\q818529.exe

    And yes PeteC, the problem happens when I try to run these installs.

    Ok - I understand what's going on with the updates.

    Have a look here for some info on updates failing to install.
