When you load win 98 it usually takes 30 to 60 mins. to run through the setup process, correct? thats what i thought. while running setup this time its telling me that its going to take 204 mins. i've let it run through the whole process and then the system hangs at the windows 98 startup screen. i didn't recieve any errors or messages. i've never seen this in the many times i've installed windows os's.

also i've tried three different hard drives, two cdroms, cables, and ram. if anyone one has any ideas or suggestions they would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi naes
Welcome to the boards. Have you done an fdisk and format first, before installing Windows 98?

Yes i have run fdisk and formatted the drive. I also have run wipeout on the drive. I've tried just about everything i can think of. I'm thinking theres something wrong with the mobo.

Try copying the win98 folder to the hard drive and run set up from there. It will copy faster if smartdrv is loaded and running. (add smartdrv.exe to the startup floppy)

You might try setting the CMOS values to thier default settings. I've seen similar situations when the Level 2 cache was disabled.
