PS2 to Serial Adapters quite often do not work.

And also the other way around may not work either.

They are supposed to BUT ????

Don't you have a socket on the MB for that PS2 plug ?

    What was the old mouse?
If it was a very small rectangular connection with squared corners, with no round holes visible in the end, it was a USB mouse. Where it plugged in may have a trident looking symbol on it.

A serial mouse would have a rectangular connection, with rounded corners, with holes visible.

A PS2 mouse connection is just plain round, with pins visible on it.

All of the descriptions above relate to the end of the mouse wire, not what it plugs into on the computer.

Taking the old mouse into the store would be a big help for you to find the right one.

Unfortunately you can't get it to work. I've tried on many machines and have never seen an adapter for a mouse that works, keyboard adapters seem to work fine but not mouse adapters.

As to why, I haven't a clue...... I don't even know how they can get away with selling them.

A quick check on the Belkin website under the mouse adapter they make found this: This product will only work with combination mouse, a mouse electronically designed to work with both serial and Ps/2 applications.

I would take that mouse back to the store and exchange it for a serial mouse.
