Publisher again! Did a data transfer from a Win 95 system to a new Win XP system and now MS Publisher 99 won't work. I've uninstalled/reinstalled it a number of times using Add/remove programs and add-remove pro but still get the same results. It will open but when I try to choose a project it throws an alert that says "a critical element is missing, close all running programs and run setup again ". When I do that it gives me the uninstall/run option box. I've closed that and run d:setup but still get no change in the program.

Is MS Publisher 99 compatible with Win XP or could it be a damaged setup disk?

its a very long shot, but--right click on the shortcut to pub. click properties. click the compatibility tab and change it to your previous os. its a very long shot, but it doesnt look like there are any other suggestions.

Thanks for the reply. I should have told you that I had already tried compatibility mode and that didn't help. I did finally find one article about the program and Win XP that says that they just aren't compatible. It's beginning to look like most of my programs aren't. This is going to be an expensive upgrade! If I had it to do over I think I would have wiped the OS before transfering data and installed Win 98 SE. Maybe I'm getting too old to change but I just don't like anything about Win XP! :( Oh dear...now I've turned this into a rant! Sorry about that!

    Again...thanks for trying!

Have you checked the Microsoft Office updates to see if getting any/all service packs solves the problem? It's worth a shot and there's a link to "scan my computer to find Office updates I need" on this page.

Yes, I checked for updates and found nothing, but thanks for the suggestion.

If anyone has any more I'd love to hear them! I hate the idea of having to replace a program I like and have actually been able to learn how to use! :D
