I apologize for all these question regarding XP (Professional in particular) but I want to get as much info as possible before I take the plunge and UPGRADE.

I'm interested in XP Professional and have been reading about it. It says you have to first log on as an administrator since I've never had the OS, then for security reasions it's better to create an account and log on using the account.

I will be the only person using my computer, will I have to LOG ON everytime the system boots up? Will I be prompted for a user name and password? Is there a way to just boot up like Win 98SE without a password?

As an alternative, would XP Home Edition requrie you to log on each time or is it more like 98SE...just boot up and go?

Do you have to worry about "Admin rights" with XP Home Edition?
Is the XP Home Edition similar to 98SE just boot up and go...with no password prompts?

    Ace,

I've no idea re. Home - I run Pro, but do not have to log on. Just Boot Up and Go. :)

There is an Autologon facility available in Pro - for more info search the XP forum for 'autologon'.

It is very possible to bypass the logon screen with both XP versions. But it will be logging you on under some account.

If you want to be able to tweak the PC like you can with 9X, that account will have to have admin rights. Otherwise there are lots of things you won't be allowed to do.
