Weird, I've lost my access to dos from windows. I can go to Start>Run>command and get fatal exception error in the blue screen. I can't get dos out of windows from any source. The only way is reboot into dos. There is a comand.com under C:\windows and under C:\windows\command\EBD. I can double click eather and still get the blue screen.

This has been bugging me for some time and I've reloaded windows from the Windows 98 SE CD.

    Does anyone have any Ideas?

What type of Machine do you have.

Home built or something like Dell, HP etc. ?

I am strongly thingong that you mat have to boot to a floppy and re-install Windows for a floppy DOS bootup and not from the HD.

I've already reloaded windows a couple of times and it didn't help. I had to put in a new mother board. It's a PC Chip 2.4 Gz and had to buy a PCI to SCSI card to run my scanner, which will not work except in one program (Page Manager). Problem started after I put the new MB in and then it started working for a while and quit. I've tried so many things I can't remember them all. If it recognizes dos in the SCSI scanner, looks like it would with the command prompt. It's really wierd.

Did you just take the HD as it was and put it on the new MB ?

That does not always work properly.

I got away with it ONCE. And did not 3 other times.

That's basically what I did. It took a while, because I have 2 CDs, a Syquest drive, a 20g USB and 80g USB2. Really only need the dos for an old Key Cad program and ZTree (modeled after XTGold). Other programs that has caused problems is Windows Media 9 along with my Mission Control for Starband internet but they seem to be working now.

That may or may not be the problem. The system may not be reading the drive correctly due to the change of BIOS.

The MBR of the drive may not be correct.

Wait to see what others have to say.
