I have a desktop computer with 256 RAM and 40 gigabytes hard drive. I just purchased and installed a modem surge protector that has 900 joules. Is this sufficent to protect my modem from lightning and thunder? Thank you very much for your response.

900 joules is more than enough for a phone line.

Understand this though, even the best of surge suppressors can do only so much. If the lightning is close enough, nothing will prevent damage.

By the way, the surge suppressor cannot protect the computer from thunder; the computer can't hear it anyway. :D
