I got a 5 gig hd out of an old puter, its a quantum fireball 5400rpm. I was thinking of puting my os on this and using my 40gig maxtor for everything else. I have xp right now and dont know if ill need a new product key or can i call microsoft and tell them the deal. If i go the route of putting the os on the small drive how can i delete it off the bigger drive without erasing it all? ive got alot of pics and music so reformatting isnt an option. thanks

Not a good idea! This older drive is no where near as fast as the 40G, the OS would drag.

Better and simpler option install it as a second drive and use for music backups etc.

Let me guess on the 40G hd you have 25G free, right!

Unless you are struggling for disk space it aint worth the time it takes to remove the case.
