Since installing XP Pro everything is running very slow. I have done the disc cleanup, defrag, ran Spybot and AdAware. I downloaded the latest Windows Updates including the one from May 28, which is supposed to fix the problem
However, when I try to install the May 28 download, I receive the following message: "XPSP1hfm.exe is not a valid Win32 application." The update will then close without installing. I tried running the update from the Website and have also downloaded and saved it and then ran it. I get the same message. I have just recently started using XP Pro and it has been slow since I installed it.
Do you know a solution for this or why this update will not install?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

    I am running the following:
    AMD Duron
    1.10 GHz
    512 MB of RAM
    Win XP Pro

    Slow XP Pro

I had read most of the threads about this problem that are on this board. Still didn't find the answer as to why the update would not install. I went back and read them again after your reply and still found no solution. However, I went back to Windows update and ran the download again and it installed itself this time.
I wish I had read all of these posts before I installed the file in the first place. It appears that I don't really need it. I would remove all of it, but they tell me that I would lose any new programs that I have downloaded since then. So, I hope the "fix" works.
    Thanks for the reply.

Good, does it seem back to normal now?

    Hope so.

    XP Pro

    Mike,
The system seems to be quite a bit faster than before. I still think it was faster running 98 SE, but they tell me that XP is slower because of all of the extra features in it. Anyway, it is not as slow as it was before the last 'Fix."
One thing for sure, I will be more careful about the updates offered by Microsoft in the future.
    Thanks for the help.
