Over the last couple of weeks I have been getting lock ups again (had similar prob a while ago which was sorted).

The event log viewer (system) has some of the following warning

    Event Type: Warning
    Event Source: i8042prt
    Event Category: None
    Event ID: 17
    Date: 01/06/2003
    Time: 12:02:11

    Computer: SEANY202
    Description:

I have a multimedia keyboard with installed "hotkey" software.

I have also, again, began to be removed from online Counter Strike gaming servers with a warning saying I have corrupt memory - it is a new memory stick.

Related or not, (I have 1Gig of DDR Ram) if I try to startup microsoft access I get an insufficient memory error.

    1 Gig? Insufficient?

Also, the component services, event viwer, application log shows several of the following

    Event Type: Error
    Event Source: True Vector Engine

    Yes a few ideas.

1st the ( True Vector Engine ) error is a part of Zone alarm.

The i8042prt is the 2k mouse driver.

The two are not related so you may have a Gremlin.

There are Viri that try to disable the Firewall and virus scanners.

My suggestion is is to first make sure you have no Viri. If your Virus scanner has been attacked by a Viri it may only appear to be working.

So use the links below to get these specialized hot scanners. But before that do some cleanup. Do you use SpyBot and Adaware are they fully up to date and have you ran them recently?

    Configure CleanMgr to max settings
    Go to Start-Run and type

    cleanmgr /sageset:1
The above need only be ran once (these settings will be remembered as the default until another sageset is ran).

It will present a menu select all except compress, then

    Go to Start-Run and type

    cleanmgr /sagerun:1
As long as /sageset above has been ran on this computer from now on the /sagerun is the only thing that needs to run.

    Then the virus scanners

    Special Virus cleaners

    Stinger http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/
    PQremove http://www.webmasterfree.com/software/2911.html
    SysClean http://www.trendmicro.com/download/tsc.asp

These are the Delta force for only the newest and most prolific viruses today.

Use these if it is possible that a virus may have disabled your regular scanner.

For a quick clean, and then if they find and clean anything do a full deep scan with a full-fledged scanner.

If you suspect a virus has disabled your regular scanner you should do 3 things. A little overkill but we will be sure to cover all the bases.

    1. Download STINGER and PQREMOVE and Sysclean and run them. NOTE: always download them do not run an older one that you have had; these are updated almost daily.

    2. Do an online dedicated Trojan/worm scan and online regular virus scan.

    3. If your virus scanner was up to date, and "IF" either 1 or 2 above finds a virus then it is possible that your virus scanner has been disabled. You should completely uninstall and reinstall your virus scanner update it and run it in full mode with max settings.

After the above and if clean you should go to safe mode and in Add/Remove uninstall the Virus scanner, and do a couple of reg cleans before reinstalling. Do you have in regcleaners?

If Viri are found you may need to do the same for your virus scanner.

    Mike
