    Hello Ramona

Need your guidance please. I decided to remove Netscape 4.79 and go with NS 7.02 exclusively
although it still will not work on some web sites. Once 4.79 supposedly was removed from my
system [Windows 98 SE], I still find the following two sets of `keys' remaining in the Registry.

There are two other sets that clearly refer to 7.02 [see sets 3 and 4 below] although Set 3 appears
to be a mixture to my untrained eye.

Set Four is clearly entitled Netscape 6 but I've never installed Ver 6 at any time. I went straight from
    4.79 to 7.02.

I think I should keep all but Set One. Can you help? I use a program called Reg Cleaner to view the
Registry contents, to make copies of the entries and to clean out dregs of previously removed
programs where and when the notion of `dregs' is clear. With NS, it's not clear to me.

By the way, has there been any patch for 7.02 to correct the Bookmarks' problems such as sorting, etc. ? We spoke of this earlier. I do note the comments re possible demise of Netscape which would be a tragedy. It's so far ahead of IE even though a few web sites don't recognise it.

    Thank you.

    Set One: Software : Netscape

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Netscape\Netscape Navigator\User Trusted External Applications

    Hi Welt,

I would proceed with Extreme Caution!

Back up the entire Registry. Ensure that you "Export" the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Netscape\Netscape Navigator Registry Key before deleting. In the event that you break 7.02, you can always replace the Registry Key with a double click...

I definitely would not touch the deinstall keys, and as the Netscape 6 Keys have a reference to 7.02, I would leave them in place for now, as they do no harm.

I am very, very, very, conservative when it comes to the Registry, and rarely encourage anyone to do a Registry edit. If it were me, I would wait until a time when you were going to update 7.02, then do a clean install, including all the Registry entries for Netscape.

Netscape doesn't do patches, but the next Version, which will be 7.1, will have some nice Bookmark improvements. If you will read the Release Notes for Mozilla 1.4 RC1, you will see the reference to Bookmarks. Netscape 7.1 will be based on Mozilla 1.4 Final. See THIS THREAD.

    Thanks Ramona,

I hear you loud and clear. I just don't like allowing the registry to grow and grow and grow.

    Will have a look at the 7.1 data but I am using a Silly Dog version [ Netscape 7.02 - Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.0.2) Gecko/20030208 Netscape/7.02 (CK-SillyDog) ], so I suppose I ought to wait for the SD 7.1 short version replacement.

    Thanks again, as always.
