Hi Andrew - and welcome :)

Download AdAware and run this too - see below:

    AdAware 6.0 http://www.lavasoftusa.com/
    Run only after SpyBot!
Make sure to configure to Max settings, all files and compressed files. Delete all it finds.

When you say the latest Windows Updates do you mean as of today ?

The April version of 811493 slowed many folks PC's right down - the May 28 update fixes this problem.

May be wise to un-install the April version first, although the May version should install over it OK.

Search the XP forum for '811493' for more info.

    Slow XP Pro

I am having the same problem as andrewm. Everything is running very slow. I have done the disc cleanup, defrag, ran Spybot and AdAware. I downloaded the latest Windows Updates including the one from May 28.
However, when I try to install the May 28 download, I receive the following message: "XPSP1hfm.exe is not a valid Win32 application." The update will then close without installing. I tried running the update from the Website and have also downloaded and saved it and then ran it. I get the same message. I have just recently started using XP Pro and it has been slow since I installed it.
Do you know a solution for this?

    I am running the following:
    AMD Duron
    1.10 GHz
    512 MB of RAM
    Win XP Pro
