    Hi,
I'm having problems here and can't get anywhere to fix them!!
I have Windows ME ( yeah I know!!), Outlook Express 5.1 and IE 4.? I have SBC Yahoo mail, but like OE !!

First problem: Suddenly OE started crashing with Norton Blue Screen ( after almost 9 yrs. with no problems) saying:
Fatal Exception ( OD-general protection fault) Occurred at 0028:c02a5235 in VXD Vwin32(05)+00002065..Now some of the nubmers are different, but always vwin32(05)
Also getting a VXD VMM(01)+0000c86a too!!

I've run Scandisk/ Defrag, tried to change *dbx to .old

now I'm getting MSIMN cause an invalid page fault in Module Kernal32.dll at 0187:bff6bb07 !!!

    Can anyone Help me!!

There is more..I've tried to uninstall OE5..to 0e6/IE6..but it gets hung up on installing components..can't get it to work and I've tried several mirror sites for the download

The crashing only happens when I recieve mail in OE..it will download all mail from SBC, but then blue screens on me..with Norton Crash Guard!!

Ok..I think thats all I had to say about it!!

    THanks again

    Therein may lie the problem.

IE and OE should be of the same version in order to work properly.

That is why I dumped OE YEARS ago and went with non-OS related E-mail. To be specific Eudora.

I just upgraded to XP from SE and Eudora is doing just FINE with no re-install.

Norton Crash Maker er..Guard causes more crashes than it fixes. Dump that thing and see what straightens up.

Norton Crash Cause probably is not helping matters either.

    Beat me to it, Bill.

Ok..I've heard you can't "dump" Norton Fully..if this is true..how do I fix that?

Also..How come I can't install OE/IE6? Why does it keep getting hung up..?

And does Norton cause a msimn , vxd, and vwin32 crash? Some say I need to restore my registry , or at least edit it, and some say I should just do a "restore ".

    Any suggestions?

1st off what version Of Windows are you running ?

And does Norton cause a msimn , vxd, and vwin32 crash

A messed up Norton software will do most anything.

I would suggest DUMPING the whole Symantec Software and then see what gives.

I can see by the fact that you have Crash Creator loading that the Norton software is not of a more recent version. And the older versions WILL NOT work properly with the newer Windows.

There are much better ( or just as good ) AV and Firewall programs available. And they do things with MUCH less OS problems.

And BTW. This coming to you from a LONG TIME supporter of Norton. I now have no more Symantec software on this machine.

Ok..I've heard you can't "dump" Norton Fully

Where in the world did you here that bit of mis-information ?

A bad install or a corrupted install may have to be done manually but Norton CAN BE dumped completely. Just need to be careful about being online with no AV protection.

Part of the problem here may well be in the OS itself.

ME seems to be fine until things go wrong. Then in can be pure H*** to fix.

And from experience Symantec Software DOES NOT behave well in ME.

    Kernal32 or kerne32?

Two things to try though. Firstly, run an online virus scan. Secondly, use Find Files or Folders to search for "*.pwl" (without the quotes) and delete whatever files are found (NOTE: This will cause Windows to "forget" any stored passwords).

Nikiknows - a simple solution/workaround when links don't work (as you said Brett's didn't), right click on the link and choose "Copy shortcut." Then paste it into the address bar.

Information on the page Brett gave the link to is the one I used to fix the same problem you're having. Specifically, changing the "short name" in Tools>Folder options>File types>URL:Hypertext Transfer Protocols (and URL: Gopher) to the long name.

    Hi Miz

Thanks for that help ( duh !!) I don't know why I didn't think of that, "copy shortcut and paste "...LOL ( and just for the record they were valid links)

Also..gosh I 'm so sorry to keep pestering you all

I'm now getting messages ( each different) and when I hit close and then go back to it..it doesn't happen. Here are the 3 messages I've gotten so far:

MSIMN has caused an error in HBCORESSRV.DLL. MSIMN will now close

Ybrowser has caused an error in Kernel32.dll
    and
ybrowser has caused an error in user.exe

    What is happening now?

    THanks

HBCORESSRV.DLL or HBCORESRV.DLL? The second file could be associated with Hotbar, a spyware program that you should uninstall. A reference:

    http://www.mvps.org/inetexplorer/Darnit.htm#hotbar

Search on your computer for either HBCORESSRV.DLL or HBCORESRV.DLL then right click on it, select Properties and see if you can discover the "owning" company. Do the same with YBROWSER. That should give you a clue as to what program you may have recently installed that is causing the problem.
    --

On the ybrowser, not sure what that program might be. Possibly SBC Yahoo Browser? See http://support.sbcglobal.net/index.php

If this is a program supplied by your ISP then contact them for help.

Putting the errors mentioned in the original post together with the ones in the latest reply by Nikiknows make for a badly corrupted Operating system I believe.

It may look like the browser is causing the problem but I do not think so.

Unless it is some sort of Spyware or a Virus.

    Pages are Blank !!

    Hi again

I've seemed to clear up all my fatal errors, page fault problems. And I thank you all for that help ( Oe and Ie keeps crashing thread)!!

Now I have another problem..When I click on Underlined web links in my mail ( and it's not all spam) or my Yahoo pages a screen comes up but it's blank..it doesn't load!! Now sometimes when I "copy shortcut" and then Paste to address bar..it works but not always!!

Also It seems like it takes forever for pages to load..if they even do!! Could someone help me? Please don't give me a link..It doesn't always work!!
    ==========end c/p===========

On your new problem, links opening blank pages, I see brett has replied in the other thread, linking you to another post on this board which in turn contains a link to http://www.mvps.org/inetexplorer/answers2.htm#blank_windows

You still might want to check for Spyware by installing and running a program like
    Spybot S&D
