Currently running Win 98SE. If I decide to upgrade to Win XP does the UPGRADE version of XP allow you to show "Proof of existing Windows OS" and procede with the XP install from there?

Much like upgrading from Win 95 to Win 98. All you had to do was purchase the upgrade version of Win 98, Install the CD, the slip in the old Win 95 CD to show "proof of ownership" from a previous version of Windows, then proceed with the Win 98 installation.

ALSO: For home use would it be better to purchase XP Pro over XP Home Edition? What would be the advantage(s) of XP Pro over XP Home Edition?

    I just did

But one thing I learned after several failed attepmts.

When upgrading as you wish to do have 98SE RUNNING and then insert the CD and let it Auto start and do the install from there.

No Proof will be needed. And as you can see mine went VERY Well.

But one thing I must add.

It is not a good idea to do this if problems exist and errors are being reported by the present OS.

    I recommend XP Pro.

Can a CLEAN install of XP be done using the UPGRADE version....much like the procedure I described in previous post?

    Yes to clean install.

    I have tired that too.

Just will need the 98 CD for proof then

    Thanks BillyBob.

One more question. Is it true that you can only use the XP CD a limited number of times....unlike Win 98 you can install it as many times as you wish and if you have more than one compuer in your home you can use same Win 98 CD with no problem?

That is a question that I myself can not give an honest answer to.

But I believe basicly you are correct.

That is one reason I want to make sure this install is as soild as possible before the 30 day deal is up.

Thanks again BillyBob. Uncle "Bill" (as in Gates) really "messed" with us for the XP OS.

Once you have the install done and all your basic apps loaded, and all basic configs done, use Norton Ghost and you'll never need that activation key again!
