I have recently run into a problem with the Windows Sound Recorder on a PC. The PC is an HP Pavilion 7800 AMD Duron 750MhZ running WinMe. I recently installed MusicMatch JukeBox v7.5, no problem there. The problem is, even with the recording source set in MusicMatch to LineIn, it will only work when the Windows Sound Recorder also has the LineIn selected as its recording source too. That would not be a problem if the Windows Sound Recorder would properly save that setting. However, everytime the machine is rebooted, Windows Sound Recorder changes to the default microphone as the recording source selected. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Windows Recorder and MusicMatch in various combinations. I have looked for registry or .ini settings that would control the bahavior of the Windows Sound Recorder, all with no luck. I have searched the Internet, Microsoft's KB and Technet, and other help sites to no avail. I am at the end of my rope. Anybody got any ideas?

This may or may not be connected but I have a feeling that the free version of MusicMatch does not allow line-in recording.

Apologies if I'm barking up the wrong tree.

You are right. The free version of MM will not allow line-in recording. I neglected to mention that I have the paid Plus version of the program. Thanks for the post.

I got tired of beating my head against the wall on this one. I upgraded this PC to WinXP. Problem resolved.
