MS Security Patch MS 811493 released around mid-April can cause programs to open Veeeery Sloooowly ...

On my Dell P-4 2.4 GHz, double clicking a desk icon would get the icon selected, but then followed by a very pregnant pause of 10+ seconds before the program actually opens.

Until I realized what was happening, I would re-double click the icon, only to find several instances of the application eventually openning all over my desktop.

Dump 811493, and the problem goes away.:p

Yep! with you all the way on this one. I removed it and all is fine. EXCEPT! My Recycle Bin, Windows Explorer and My Computer windows have since developed mines of there own.
I can set them to my preference and come back later and they have changed, Not a big deal I guess but I don't like the full screen.

Maybe you or someone else can give me some ideas how to fix this.

    Thanks much.

    mopar.

Control panel > Add/Remove Programs - just scroll to the bottom of the list, click on 811493 and hit Remove.

Does anyone know what the problem with this update is?

Why I ask is that I noticed an immediate drop in speed when I installed it on one of our PC's, yet on the other it made no difference whatsoever.

Yup - slows some PC's to a crawl and doesn't affect others. MS acknowledges a problem with this.

The new released version today, May 28, solves all of the slow downs and performance problems associated with the original patch. Installed and actually saw an increase in my internet connection speeds of about 10% on downloads, uploads remain unchanged.
