    3 Questions:

1- Is there a way to have XP shutdown the PC after there is no activity OR at a certain time? If not, is there a 3rd party SW that works with Xp to do so? As an example if I'm downloading something overnight, once it's done I'd want XP to shutdown the PC (which would automatically log me off the net as well).

2- Is there a way to have the programs/shortcuts in the 'Sendto' folder to come up sorted when you right click on certain files? I sort them in the folder itself, but after right clicking on a file, the sendto list comes up in a random order.

3- I notice that when I check the 'Status bar' options on certain folders, when I reopen the folder later, the status bar is gone again and I have to re-check it. Is there a way to make having it ON the default for all folders?

    Thx,

    Hi Mike

!. Can't answer this one, but I would think it possible. Nero Burn gives the option to shut down the PC after a burn is complete so there must be a way.

    2. That's interesting - I have checked my m/c and for the limited 'Send to' options I have - deleted many as I rarely use that option as I find the Send to/Copy to folder function at right click far more useful - they all come up in alphabetical order with the numerics - 3 1/2" Floppy at the bottom of the list.

    3. Status Bar - set up a folder as you want it > go to Tools > Folder Options > View > scroll down the list and check 'Remember each folders view settings > Apply to all folders.

    Right back at ya:

1- I have two 3rd party programs that did this in Win98. One also allowed you to shutdown after a certain amount of inactivity BUT it doesn't run in XP (not sure why). BUT, the second one works, yet only for shutdown at a SPECIFIC time (tried it last night and it worked). It's called "Poweroff" (by a gentleman named 'Jorgen Bosman'). Doesn't check for amount of inactivity though. I'm wondering if anyone knows of a SW for XP that does check.

2- Yeah, strange that my list Sendto isn't sorted... What I did to rectify the situation is move the shortcuts to another folder, THEN copy them back in the order I wanted them to appear. Seems it is using the order in which they are copied into the folder <shrug>. One other thing is that XP automatically puts the A: floppy and my CD rom drive letter into the Sendto list too, which I don't want, but I can't find a way to remove them (they don't appear as shortcuts in the folder, imagine it's a registry entry somewhere).

3- Ahh.. didn't notice the new 'Apply to all folders' button. OK, so that works, but I guess there is no way to have the Status bar appear in ALL folders (as opposed to having to check it off in each folder as I go)?

    Thx,

To shutdown at a specific time, just put a shortcut to shutdown in the task scheduler.
    Here's the shortcut: %windir%\System32\SHUTDOWN.exe -s -t 00 -f
This unconditionally shuts down all applications and services and turns the computer off with no delay.

To sort the sendto list, change the shorcut names (in the registry).
The keys on the upper row of the keyboard are the hint.
The first (alphabetically) assigned key is the ~, second the !, third the @ etc, so if you want "send to zip" as the first instead of last, change it's name to "~send to zip ".
Simply renaming them in Explorer will not work.

Open a folder, and set your status bar, on the Tools, Folder options, View tab, set Apply to all folders. Close and restart Explorer.

    reboot:

Is there a way to REMOVE the "Floppy" and "CD ROM" drive from sendto? Since they're not in the sendto folder, I can't find how to get rid of them (don't want them there, just clutter).

    Thx,
