If anyone knows the answer to this I'll be glad to hear it.

In Word 2000, when I select a block of text for deletion & then press the delete button I'd rather like it to be deleted. Instead, I get an annoying "Delete block Y/N?" message on the status bar which I then have to press 'Y' to.

If I press delete, I want to delete - not have to answer a confirmation question! After all, if I have made a mistake I can always use "undo ".

Is there any way of turning this irritating feature off? I've looked under "options" & elsewhere & tried searching on-line help. but without success. I don't recall it appearing in previous versions of Word.

    Thanks for you help.

Well, there must be a way. I just tried it, and I don't get that annoying message - the selected text is just deleted. I'll root around some and see if I can find where it's turned on and off.

Go to Tools, Options, General, and uncheck the "Help for WordPerfect users" and "Navigation keys for WordPerfect users" checkboxes.

Thank you both, particularly Whitphil. Your reply has solved not only that nuisance, but I can also use the Ctrl+Home combination to return to the start of a document now without an annoying dialogue box popping up!

Goodness knows why the WordPerfect Users button was selected in the first place, though - I've never used WordPerfect so it wouldn't have been of any help to me.

Anyway, problem solved so thanks again.
