launching external applications outside of browser

trying to figure out how to launch a word document outside the browser. The save target as function does not work on the specific secured site so it will be helpful to launch a document outside the browser. any ideas?

 

Hi matthoya, Here's a coupla things to try instead of
-minimizing a window.
-Right-click on an empty space on the taskbar, mouse over "Toolbars" select "Desktop ", toolbar will come up. Then move the desktop toolbar over so only the word "Desktop" is visible with >>, so it won't take up much room on the taskbar. Worth the few cycles.
-or "Start" "Settings" "TaskBar & StartMenu" tab "Advanced ", click "Advanced" and there's the options.
