    Hello!
Any help on this one will be greatly appreciated.
If I need to dial up my ISP for a third time in a session (ie without having rebooted) no data will transfer. I log on first time - no problem. If I log off (or get bumped off) and log on again, no problem. But a third time won't work. I log on to the ISP OK, but as soon as I try to go anywhere, I immediately get the 'unavailable' screen in in IE or error message in Outlook - in other words, no data will transfer, regardless of the program. The only way out of this I can find is to reboot.

It's nothing to do with the ISP and is not firewall related. Some of my income is via internet connection and that work is very time critical. I all the time need to reboot after every disconnect or drop-out, in case this all happens at the wrong time and I get caught out.

I've asked around alot on this. Someone somewhere must have some clue. Help, someone ... please!

Uninstall any third-party firewall (especially ZA) and test with a different ISP.

Also, try stopping the DHCP Client service.

    Hello Homer,

Dorfman's solutions are a little drastic. In order to eliminate whether this problem has anything to do with the firewall, if your running one, shut it down. Usually this is a right click option in the tray icon.

If XP's Built- in firewall, ICF is running, shut it down. If your running a Third-party firewall in conjunction with ICF, perhaps there is a conflict between the two.

I would be very suprised if this were a firewall problem. The Symptoms are a new one on me. However, the possibility should be eliminated.

Have you contacted your ISP on this problem?

    Regards - Charles

The problem occurs even with firewalls turned off. I run zone alarm and one other, with XP's firewall turned off. The problem existed before any firewall was installed.

I have contacted my ISP, it's nothing to do with them. I can log on fine, just can't get data to transfer in/out my machine. When this happens the 'unavailable' screen or outlook error message is intantaneous - it doesn't go looking - the instant I click, the 'unavailble' message or error message is there.

    Hello Homer,

Didn't think of that! Did you try reloading or updating modem driver?

    Regards - Charles
