HI! GUYS---MY O.S. IS WINDOWS 98. I CAN'T UPGRADE TO MEDIA PLAYER 9. HOWEVER, I'M USING 7.1 BUT, MY PROBLEM IS EVERYTIME I SIGN ON AND BEFORE THE PLAYER APPEARS I GET A POP SCREEN WITH JUST ONE SMALL ADVERTISEMENT ON IT. THE ADDRESS IS AS FOLLOWS: HTTP://VIEW.ATDMT.COM/MSN/IVIEW/MSNNKHAC001120X90XMSNMHP00056MSN/DIRECT.WI120.HI90/01 WHEN, I X IT OUT THEN I CAN PROCEED USING THE PLAYER. USING "SPYBOT-SEARCH" IT COMES UP WITH AD WARE ON THE MEDIA PLAYER BUT I CAN'T GET RID OF THE POP UP. SPYBOT IDENTIFIES WHERE THE ADWARE IS IN MY REGISTRY AND EVEN REMOVING IT DOESN'T STOP IT FROM REAPPEARING. I'M A SENIOR AND NOT A GEEK SO PLEASE EXPLAIN IN VERY SIMPLE LINGO. OH! HAVE A GREAT MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND.

What you are seeing is from Avenue A which is spyware. When you run Spybot, it should detect it and have a red check mark beside of it. To eliminate it, click the "fix it" box at the bottom of Spybot after it has finished running. Also, you might want to go to Control Panel -Add/Remove and see if there is anything listed there relating to Avenue A. If there is, remove it.

Since the Avenue A thing is really a cookie, have you tried emptying your cookie files? Go to Desktop, right click on the IE icon and click on Delete cookies under the Temporary Internet Files. It will delete all your cookies, so if you have certain sites such as My Yahoo, etc. set up you will have to redo them.
But I really can't understand why Spybot doesn't delete Avenue A for you. Are you clicking on Fix It after Spybot has run?

Gee, I'm out of suggestions. I haven't found that upgrading to another OS usually has the effect of fixing a problem like this. I hope I'm not being disloyal, but I am going to suggest that you register and post this on the Security page of this forum:

    http://forums.techguy.org/

There is a guy named Tony Klein there who can help you if anyone can.
