    Hi,
I have a problem with Works Suite 2002: I have reason to run "repair Word 2002" from the installation disk, however, I receive the notification: Error 1402 Setup cannot open the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\OptionalComponents\IMAIL.

"Verify that you have sufficient permissions to access the registry or contact your computer manufacturers product for assistance. "

I accessed the above registry key but there was no IMAIL. In the folder I found "Name" "ab" (Default); "Type" REG_S2; "Data" (Value not set).

Before I do anything drastic in this folder I thought I would ask for help from someone with superior knowlege of how to fix this problem.

    Thanks in advance.

    H.

What operating system are you running? I suspect it's XP and, if so, all the information I can find indicates that the right permissions aren't set for the user account through which you're trying to install the software.

Unfortunately, all I can find so far is the MS KB artcle, Error 1402 Running Office 2000 Setup. However, you might want to take a look at that to see if the information gives you a place to start fixing the problem.

Yes Miz, I’m running Windows XP. I guessed the problem lay in the correct permissions which I seem to have lost after installing the .Net framework.

I looked at the MS KB article and it was very helpful, but there wasn’t much specifically for XP, but it helped to get me on the right lines. I restored the system to an earlier configuration, then uninstalled and reinstalled the User Accounts. This seems to have flushed out the gremlins. The .Net framework remained intact but old, unused programs I deleted earlier have been reinstalled by my system restoration. But the main thing is that Works Suite 2002 is working perfectly now.

    Thanks for your help.
