I am running Win 98SE and have gone in to remove a program only to discover that my Add/Remove folder is empty of all it's contents, though everything that was in there is still working away happily on my computer.
Things I have done before this happened is, Put in a GForce 5200 graphics card, re-installed Norton Anivirus and removed and re-installed Combat Flight simulator3. I'm not sure when during any one of these proccesses that the disappearing act occured.
I've had a computer tech over to take a look but he is stumped and has suggested that I re-formatt the comp. Any suggestions pleeeease!!!......I can't delete any programs Thanks:confused:

If everything is working normally with no problems, I would leave well enough alone and worry about it when the time comes to redo your whole disk. Remember you only need it if you need to remove a program and you most likely will have the necessary uninstall file hanging around for it anyway.....You might try a virus scan for luck..

PS: Someone who has had this problem may come along in the meantime, but I repeat, if it's working. leave it.

Thanks Top dog, I will probably have to do that, but I have discovered that there are a lot of people out there with the same problem, and I'm collecting as much info as I can by surfing the Web, this I will pass on to the a more computer minded God than me who will hopefuly figure this one out and fix this thing for me.
One such remedy I found was to: Re-boot the computer
(after memory run and before windows splash screen) - pi menu and select DOS prompt, then type scanreg/restore
I will leave it up to the tech guy so I can blame him if it goes wrong.:D

I had that exact problem a while ago, can't remember what I did to cause it. I think I installed something or another, ...............anyway:

What I did was uninstall any new software I had put on in the last couple of days (anything that could have caused it). then run SCANREG/RESTORE to restore the registry to a date before the installs.

Try it, if you have never run SCANREG before, it's quite easy.

Click Start > Shut Down > Restart in MS DOS mode.

When there, type SCANREG/RESTORE, press enter.

Basically, follow your nose (you can't go wrong). Select one of the dates that precedes the date when you installed the software, and go for it. Once done, press the reset button on the front of your PC, reboot & check your Add/Remove folder.

After you've cured it, reinstall the programs one by one, rebooting in between each, & check after rebooting to see which one caused it (it may not actually happen again). If it does happen again, just run SCANREG/RESTORE, and then avoid installing the software that caused it in the first place.

That cured it for me anyway.
