    Help.
I'm a newbie on this site and with computers.

I've used my PC at work to surf the net during breaks. I recently learned that some or all of the web sites or material I check out might be on my hard drive. No, I don't go to **** sites, but I do go to some guitar player sites and some "inappropriate" photos are sometimes put in the threads!!!

I decided it is not safe to surf at work and have refrained. What is the best way for me to clean up my hard drive?

    All help appreciated.

    Thanks,
    JohnnyL

Del cookies, history, and temporary internet files using IE>Tools>Internet options>general tab. Then advanced tab, scroll down to security and check "Empty TIF when browser closes "

    Delete cookies from c:\windows\cookies.

    Thanks B

Sounds simple enough. I have been using some of the things you mentioned but got the impression it wasn't enough and wanted to know the best method(s) to rid the hard drive of material.

    Thanks,
    JohnnyL

You can Restart in Dos Mode and do these commands at the prompt.

    smartdrv
    deltree c:\windows\cookies
    deltree c:\windows\history
    deltree c:\windows\temp
    deltree c:\windows\tempor~1

Type a Y if you really want to delete. Reboot when done, or shut it off. When windows restarts, those folders and the Swap file will be recreated.

The absolute method is a program called Evidence Eliminator. To really need this, you'll need the fear of someone disassembling the hard drive and putting the platters under an electron microscope.
