I recently flashed the BIOS of my PC (motherboard is M571 v.3.2) with an update from www.pcchips.com. The flasher gave the following message "Chipset/Flash part isn't available. The function will be invalid." Then after reboot the PC gave a black screen and currently is inoperable. How could I solve the problem? I already took the PC for repair. The people there can't get it running since this version of the BIOS (990305s.rom) seems not to accept my CPU - it's an AMD K6-2@380Mhz.

BIOS updates that fail in the process usually result in the replacement of the BIOS chip or discarding of the board.

Without a good BIOS, a main board is worth about it own weight in dirt.

I had this happen to me once. Fortunately, I had another board here identical to the one with the failed BIOS update. I booted the board with the good BIOS, hot-swapped the BIOS chip, restored the previous information (which I saved), turned off the computer, removed the BIOS chip and put it back on its original board and I was then fixed.

I don't recommend this method to others; but, it worked for me.

    Hi ganev,

Try this website http://www.stud.fernuni-hagen.de/q3998142-bin/cgi-bin/Ultimate.cgi?action=intro it's devoted exclusivlely to PC Chips boards. Have known of others who needed a BIOS chip and were able to get one from the mobo mfgr.. With your mobo this approach could be problematic. 1) If the board is out of production PC Chips may not have a BIOS chip available. 2) From viewing their main website pcchips.com, contacting them may be difficult. Try the forum at the above url.

    Good Luck, Tin

At this point it would be prudent for me to mention that Gigabyte motherboards have a dual bios. There is actually two seperate bios chips on board. A primary and secondary. When the primary fails (during a flash ect.) , the second chip takes over. Certainly not often needed but, when it is...
Great performance, stability, and a dual bios. Nice in my books. How do you top that?

Should have added the link...... http://www.giga-byte.com/
