mmc hangs when adding snapins

I get the following error when attempting to add a snap-n to the mmc console regardless of snap-in I am adding:

Hanging application mmc.exe, version 5.1.2600.0, hang module hungapp, version 0.0.0.0, hang address 0x00000000.
