just installed my new "e-GeFORCE FX 5200" graphics card and loaded the game "ghost recon" which came with the card and was salivating at the mouth thinking about how my other game "return to castle wolfenstein GOTY" would look with the new card. Well I was stopped faster than a 9mm to the back of the cranium. It tries to load and then suddenly gives me the "bonk" of not so fast my friend. Now here I sit not knowing what to do. Any suggestions on what steps to take?

    For starters.

    What version of OS ?

Is it an AGP or PCI card ?

If AGP were any required Motherboard drivers installed ?

Was the pre-existing Video card removed completely which would set the video pack to standard VGA setup before installing the new card ?

In other words we need a little more info.

Those cards are usually not just a case of plug in, add drivers and go.

I have a GeForce4 MX 440 and it took me the better part of two days and several un/re-installs before I found the PROPER SET of drivers and got them to install properly.

And one thing that I will say is that I had to go backwards 2 generations to get drivers that worked with ALL programs.

Also Directx may come into play also.

    Thanks for the reply.

    OS - WinXP

    It is an AGP card

I had a previous card in the slot, removed the drivers and the card before installing new card. The box says that it is capable of removing all old drivers blah-blah.

Not sure is the best answer I could give you, sorry.

I uninstalled the drivers and instead of loading the drivers I had which were newer I loaded the drivers that came with the card itself and everything seems to be OK.

That sounds very familiar. I have had to do it twice.

Glad you got it fixed up.

What exactly is the "bonk" of not so fast my friend? In other words, what exactly happens when you try to run the game?

the problem is fixed but to describe the sound and when it happened goes like this.

When I click on the desktop icon to start the game it opens up and starts to load. When it reached the point where the screen would actually appear on my monitor it would turn a muted white and then I would hear a sound. "bounk" "bonk" or something close to that and not do anything.

It gave me no error code or anything like that.
