IE 6.0 starting up very slow

Internet Explorer 6.0 seems to start up very slowly after I did a clean install of Win XP Pro. I expected the browser window to pop up almost instantly, but there's maybe a 10 second delay after i double click on the icon or shortcut and it finally comes up. This doesn't make sense to me because I just clean installed Win XP Pro with Service Pack 1 and all applicable updates. The computer pretty much has no junk on it yet.

My computer at work, which is much slower and has less memory than the one I have at home, seems to react much quicker when i start up IE.

I've tried deleting all temp inet files, cookies, etc. But the startup response is the same. Otherwise the browser is fine.

Any thoughts??? Or is my computer just not fast enough to respond that quickly?

I'm running Norton 2003 in the background as well, hopefully that's not it.

P3 866 Mhz
256MB RAM
WinXP Pro SP1
IE 6.0

 

Once it is open, close and open again. Still slow?

Mine is slow the first time I open in morning but is o.k. after that. Same thing with OE.

 

yeah it does seem to happen only at the first instant of launching ie 6.0. but i'm thinking that ie is doing something with the cache during this time and my computer at work never seems to have the same problem.
