Hi. I was cleaning out a few unnessary files and under *.log files Spybot is takeing up 37.7 MB of space and Ive only had it since 1-11-2003 Granted I use it alot but yikes, this isnt working out to hot. Just thought some of you others would like to know, time to make an adjustment for me. If its not 1 thing it's another lol.
Looks like Im useing the 1.1 version.
All the "logs" are all the same day, same time, same size(s), etc.
    # - Size
    9 - 16KB
    1 - 32KB
    2 - 48KB
    1 - 64KB
    3 - 128KB
    30 - 288KB
    1 - 304KB
    63 - 320KB
    17 - 336KB
    2 - 576KB

And from here down was a post on this site I was reading, while I was awaiting an awnser to system.ini adding a line & thought I'd clean out some unnessary files. Got side tracked on the size part as MB instead of KB. However I totally disagree with most of the types of files that was being discussed on that post. Think I'll call it quits on this post. Thanks for the replies.

Im beginning to think that a post I was following is a bit "far fetched" as far as whats safe to delete and whats not. It says...

I sent all files *.bak, *.dmp, *.gid, *.old, *.tmp, *.bmp *.wav * *.avi *.log & *.000 *001 *002 etc. to the bin, they take up too much space ( normally superfluous ) In another thread, different folders that could be cleared safely were mentioned. According to my notes; cookies-, dump-, history-, recent- and temp- directories can be emptied.
YEAH RIGHT. lol looks like I created a mess to go through. well thats my reply 4 now. C-ya!

xcks: I don't know if we're comparing apples to apples or apples to oranges, but my Spybot Log folder (is that what you're referring to?) is only 1.56 MB, and the entire Spybot program folder is only 12.5 MB, nowhere near your 37.7 MB. Mine is dated 1/26/03, about the same age as yours, and my computer is on-line 12-14 hours a day typically. If we are talking about the same thing, your number suggests something is way out of whack. Have I read your post correctly?

BTW, are you running v 1.1 or 1.2? I have the latter, and attempt to get updates frequently.

Some other people will probably join in before long. It will be interesting to see what their numbers are. Stay tuned.

    Hi, Xcks ~

37.7MB? The first thing you need to do is update to version 1.2. Click 'Online' > 'Search for updates' > select the update download > 'Download updates'. Do one at a time.

Then you will have to spend some time to configure it properly. It is a dynamite program. If you are unfamiliar with the settings or do not configure it properly, you will be creating your own problems.

You can simply disable the log files and dump all the backups.

All the files you listed except the .wav (sound files) and .avi (video files) are perfectly safe and are preferred deleted.
